Robert T. Murray

Robert T. Murray, a longtime Needham resident, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Pines Edge at North Hill in Needham. He was 99 years old.  Born in Newburyport MA on May 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Michael T. and Eleanor (Corey) Murray.

Bob lived in several New England states and graduated with the Class of 1944 from Belmont High School, in Belmont MA. He enlisted in the Us Army Air Force during his senior year of high school.

Bob served in World War II from November of 1944 thru August of 1946. His training consisted of B-29 General Fire Control School in Denver Colorado, followed by Gunnery School in Las Vegas Nevada. He was discharged as a sergeant.

Following the war, he attended the University of Hartford, graduating with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Bob worked at several manufacturers in all manufacturing phases and held several patents. His work in product design gave him the most satisfaction.

Bob enjoyed maintaining all aspects, both inside and out of his home. While performing these various tasks his accomplishments and skill increased. Bob also enjoyed jogging, tennis and auto maintenance.

A graveside service will be held at St. Mary Cemetery 36 Storey Ave, Newburyport on Wednesday, September 17th at 11am. Services will conclude with military honors. At Bob’s request, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to a charity of your choice.
