Robert “Bob” G. Melia, Sr. of Needham entered eternal rest on May 25, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances (Barker) Melia, and his three sons and their wives: Robert G. Melia, Jr. and Stephanie of Orlando; Stephen A. Melia, Sr. and Maura of Millis; and Joshua R. Melia, Sr. and Lynne of Needham. Bob was blessed with six grandchildren who called him “Pa”: Stephen A. Melia, Jr., Samantha Melia, Marissa Melia, Robert G. Melia III, Joshua R. Melia, Jr. and Annabella Melia. Survived by his loving sister, Geraldine (Melia) Fetch of Needham and Bluffton, S.C., and nephew, James A. Fetch and Keely Witowski of Newton. Fortunate to have the best friend in James Perry of Brighton.
Bob was a Brighton boy, graduating from Saint Columbkille School; he then proudly served two years in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning stateside, Bob attended Newman College, University of Massachusetts Amherst and Boston University. Bob retired in 2000 having enjoyed his last 20 years of employment at the Jewish Community Center in Newton. Bob loved his family and friends, hunting and fishing, summers on the Cape in West Dennis, and the changing seasons of New England.
Relatives and Friends are kindly invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service for Bob and Fran on Saturday, December 17th at 11am at the First Baptist Church of Needham, 858 Great Plain Ave, Needham.
