Ruth V. (Covell) O’Hara, of Needham, formerly of Osterville and most recently of NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, passed away on Tuesday, June 23 2026. She was a remarkable 105 years old. Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Wallace W. “Wally” O’Hara and the loving mother of Susan Hopkins and her husband James, Brian O’Hara, Carol Fraini and her husband Michael and the late Richard O’Hara. She was the cherished grandmother “Nini” of Bryan Hopkins, Michaela, Julia and Olivia Fraini and great grandmother of Cole and Maddie Hopkins. Ruth was the dear sister of Charles Kowalski.
Ruth was a longtime employee of Calverts Clothing store in Needham, retiring as the manager of Calverts Active Sportswear Store. Known for her love of cooking, Ruth had an extensive collection of international cookbooks. She loved her family and was at her best when she was with them and cooking for them.
Visitation will be held in the Eaton Funreal Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Tuesday, June 30th from 9:30 – 11:15am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave, Needham, at 11:30am. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s name may be made to the American SIDS Institute (https://sids.org/ways-to-help/donate/).
