Sandra Perry Obituary

Sandy B. (Gewinner) Perryof Brewster, MA and Hutchinson Island, FL, formerly of Dover, MA, passed away on Sunday, March 6, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Sandy was the beloved wife of H. John Perry and stepmother of Adam Perry of Medfield, MA, and Jennifer Easley of Boxford, MA. Loved by her daughter-in-law, Susan, and son-in-law, Eric, she was the proud and devoted grandmother of Julia and Renee Perry and Cooper, Payton, and Ella Easley.
After graduation from the Kent’s Hill school in Kent’s Hill Maine she went to Wheelock College where she graduated in 1964. At Wheelock she cultivated and developed a passion for teaching. Armed with a Masters in Elementary Education from Umass she embraced all the joys and challenges of educating young people. As a teacher in the Wellesley school system for over 25 years Sandy will be fondly missed by scores of fellow educators as well as the thousands of students whose lives she made a positive and lasting impact on. Never satisfied she constantly looked for ways to improve how she understood and interacted with her students. For over 10 years she effectively helped guide future educators by working as a graduate advisor for the Simmons College Elementary Education program. Sandy’s energy, enthusiasm and effectiveness were also on display over the course of her many active years of service in the Wheelock College Alumni Association. In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees and chairing many committees she was honored when chosen to serve as Alumni Association President from 1994-1996.
A lady in every sense of the word, she developed deep and lasting friendships with many in her community. Sandy was a member of the Dover Church for 26 years, as well as a member of the Dover Garden Club and the Dover Book Club.
As member of the Stuart Corinthian Yacht Club in Florida and Newport Yacht Club in Rhode Island she never let her medical battle get in the way of adventure and excitement. Sandy and her husband cruised the coastal waters from Nova Scotia to the Bahamas for over 15 years with many dear friends. A funeral service will held Thursday, March 10 at 11:00am at the Dover Church, 17 Springdale Ave, Dover, followed by interment at Highland Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to continue the breakthroughs in woman’s gynecological cancer treatment to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Gynecologic Oncology Program, c/o Dr Suzanne Berlin, 450 Brookline Ave. Boston, MA 02215-5450.
