Soo Lee, MD Obituary

Dr. Soo Jin Lee, 41, of Boston, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2011 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. Born in Seoul, Korea, she emigrated to the U.S. in 1977 and grew up in Lancaster, PA. Soo Jin graduated from Barnard College in New York with a BS in Biology in 1993. She received here medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY in 1999. After completing her residency at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY in 2003, Soo Jin joined the OB/GYN staff at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA as an attending physician. In 2005, Soo Jin joined the OB/GYN department at Tufts-New England Medical Center (now Tufts Medical Center) in Boston.

For those who were fortunate enough to get to know her, Soo Jin had an intense personality that made her easy to like and difficult to ignore. She even had an effect on the weather, bringing rain (Scottsdale, AZ) and snow (Las Vegas, NV) on her two trips to the desert. She had a difficult childhood, but then she "grew up" in the big city in New York and since then she has had big dreams, big ideas, strong opinions and a wide group of friends that stretched around the world. She loved good food, especially when it was accompanied by good wine. She also loved to travel, treasuring her visits to Thailand, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Paris, The Amalfi Coast, and Tuscany, while her never-ending wanderlust took her imagination to those far away places she couldn't actually visit in person. She also enjoyed her trips to Stowe, VT, Rockport, MA, Newport, RI, the wine country in northern California, Vail, CO and Aruba among other places. Most of all, she loved her friends and family. Even when it wasn't evident on the outside, Soo Jin cared deeply for the people in her life with a passion that sometimes burned too brightly but always glowed warmly.

In June of 2008, Soo Jin was diagnosed with clear cell ovarian cancer. Since then she waged a vigorous and valiant battle to overcome her disease, a battle she ultimately lost. Soo Jin is survived by her loving husband Gene K. Yoo of Boston, her 3-year old son Kason Alexander Yoo, her mother Young-Sook Lee and her step-father Dr. Paul Rho of Princeton Junction, NJ, her brothers Hamilton Lee of Marlton, NJ and Benjamin Lee of Seoul, Korea, her sisters-in-law Myung Hee Yeom or Marlton, NJ and Kastity Ha of Seoul, Korea, and her nieces Yoon Hee and Ye-Eun.
