Stacy M. Slachta, of Waltham, passed away on Wednesday, October 29th, at the age of 40.
Born in Sleepy Hollow, NY, Stacy grew up in Brewster, NY, where she graduated from Brewster High School. She went on to attend Bentley University, earning her degree in Finance. After college she made her home in Waltham, where she met Matt - the love of her life and her truest companion.
Stacy had a boundless love for animals and cared for them with her whole heart. She rescued her first cat, Sonic, in high school and continued that loving mission through her life. She and Matt rescued their beloved dog Cooper together who joined their cats Abby and Mr. Magoo in a home full of warmth and wagging tails. Even while visiting her mother in Florida, Stacy made sure to feed the families of turtles and fish in the nearby canal every day. Her caring nature extended to every creature, great and small.
A talented cook and baker, Stacy delighted in trying new recipes and sharing food with those she loved. This included food she knew she wouldn’t enjoy, just to prove to herself she could master a recipe or technique and spoil her friends and family in the process. Her kitchen was a place of love and comfort.
Stacy was a passionate sports fan who never missed the chance to gather with family and friends to watch a game. She especially loved Boston sports - the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and of course, the Patriots. Few things excited her as much as her Patriots season tickets and the tailgates that brought everyone together. Stacy organized an annual NFL Survivor league and ran Super Bowl squares each year. She was eagerly looking forward to the World Cup coming to Boston; she signed up to volunteer with FIFA so she could be close to the excitement she loved so much.
Above all, Stacy will be remembered for her kindness, her selflessness, and the way she lifted others simply by being herself. Her love for her family, friends, and animals was unwavering. She made every moment brighter for those fortunate enough to know her.
She was predeceased by her grandparents Ruth and William Slachta and Rosemarie and Hubert Bartzick.
Stacy is survived by her soulmate, Matthew Mackenzie; her mother, Rosemarie Slachta; her father, William Slachta, Jr; her brother Billy Slachta, and many aunts, uncles and extended family. She also leaves behind countless friends and coworkers who became like family along the way.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 9th from 4-7pm in the Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St, NEWTON CORNER. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:30 at the First Lutheran Church of Waltham, 6 Eddy St, Waltham. Interment will follow at Mt. Feake Cemetery in Waltham.
