Stephen P. Maffie, age 64, passed away on June 4, 2022.
Known to all as “Bucky”, he always looked forward to family events such as cookouts, holidays, casual gatherings, and especially weddings when he could look forward to dancing with the brides (much to the chagrin of the groom). He also happily attended community events such as Halloween costume parties, dances and concerts.
Halloween especially was his big deal. He would arrive at the party wearing prize winning, especially made for him, costumes that let him be a star. He was loved by everyone that got to know him. Always friendly and always happy. Dogs, in particular, bonded with Bucky.
He was very enthusiastic about many sport-related activities as well. He had experience with Special Olympics, swimming, horseback riding, basketball, all kinds of dancing and Zumba lessons. Every summer, he looked forward to camp with different types of activities and see new and old friends. Like many people, Buck was also an avid Patriots fan.
Bucky also worked in a sheltered workshop. Thank you to the Price Center and its dedicated staff for teaching Bucky new skills. His teachers helped him with many enjoyable activities every day. He made many lifelong friends both there and at his group home. We think that he left a little piece of himself with everyone whose life he touched.
The Angels have come to take Bucky home where he will be reunited with all of the family waiting for him to find peace, comfort, and a world without pain and suffering. We all love Bucky and will miss this gentle soul.
He is survived by his sister Carole Stevens of Alton Bay, NH and her husband Ron, sister Lorraine Drowne of Mashpee, MA and his brother Michael of Putney, VT as well as nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visiting hour in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Fri June 17 from 10 – 10:45 AM followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 11 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.
