Sukriye Aktas

Sukriye Aktas of Newton, died Thursday February 11, 2021 in Fethiye, Turkey. She was 59 years old.

Born in Kirsehir, Turkey, Mrs. Aktas was the daughter of the late Mustafa and Sultan Unsal. She had seven siblings. She received her nursing degree from Cebeci Health Sciences College. Mrs. Aktas later moved to the United States in 1988, living in Madison Wisconsin from 1988 to 1994, and Newton, Massachusetts from 1994 to 2021.

Mrs. Aktas worked as a registered nurse for nearly 30 years. She was an advocate for women's and minority rights, regularly helping those who had recently immigrated to the United States. Her most enjoyable days were those spent with her family and children, and at her summer home in Turkey with her family. She is survived by her husband, Huseyin Aktas, daughter, Deniz Harrison, and son, Serdil Aktas.

Visiting hours will be held at Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St, Newton, MA 02458 from 3-6pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Friends and relatives are invited. All attendees must adhere to COVID 19 protocols, wear face coverings and social distance. Interment at Newton Cemetery.
