Theodore Hasenfus Obituary

Theodore W. “Teddy” Hasenfus of Needham, Massachusetts, passed away on May 25, 2026. He is survived by his wife, LeeAnn Hasenfus, and his son, TJ Hasenfus, who were the center of his life.

Teddy was born on December 24, 1949, in Needham, Massachusetts, just minutes before Christmas, to Pucky and Charlotte Hasenfus.

From an early age, Teddy lived with a strong sense of energy, humor, and a lifelong pull toward adventure. Teddy graduated from Needham High School where he excelled in football, hockey, and friendships. He was a semi-pro hockey player and an expert motocross champion. The family would follow him from track to track as he would fly around the dirt track.

Teddy worked for many years as an electrician, helping to build homes throughout Needham and leaving a lasting mark on the community through his hard work, skill, and dedication. He took pride in his work and in doing things the right way. He was known for his ability to bring energy and light to those around him, both in his work and in his everyday life. Teddy had a natural way of making people feel welcome, included, and valued.

Teddy developed a passion for golf. He would start work extra early so that he could play golf in the afternoon. For many years, Teddy was a member of the Needham Golf Club and the Crown Point Country Club in Springfield, Vermont.

Ted was deeply devoted to his family. He and his wife, LeeAnn, shared nearly 40 years built on laughter and adventure. Together they built a life centered around family, friends, and time spent together.

He was especially proud of his son, TJ, who was the center of his world. The time they shared together was among his greatest joys.

Ted’s greatest passion was hang gliding. He discovered it as a young man and carried that love of flying throughout his life. Ted would fly in the sky from Vermont to Massachusetts on occasion. The freedom and perspective it gave him reflected the way he lived — always reaching for more and encouraging others to do the same.

He is lovingly remembered by his extended family and countless dear friends – his siblings Walter and Judy Hasenfus, Charles “Chuck” Hasenfus, George “Gigi” Hasenfus, and Carol and Jim Stento; his in laws Lynn Mazzaferro, Richard Mazzaferro, Mikey and Doris Mazzaferro, and Santia and Mike Ringer; and many nieces and nephews especially the littlest ones who he adored. He now joins those who passed before him, including his parents, Charlotte and Pucky Hasenfus, his mother-in-law Ann Tauber and his brother in law Nico Mazzaferro

Ted will be remembered for his hard work, his love of family, and his adventurous spirit — always lifting others and living life with courage, energy, and heart.
