Thomas H. Strunk of Needham died on Tuesday, October 19th at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was 74 years old. Born and raised in Illinois, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Ruby (Reid) Strunk. Tom attended the University of Oregon and Utah State where he completed his doctoral program earning a PhD in cellular physiology. Tom served in the US Army reserve. After completing his PhD, Tom did his post doctoral work at Harvard University in kidney research. In his later years, Tom worked as a civilian environmental scientist for the US Army at Fort Devons as a project manager of a Super Fund Site.
Tom shared his passion for art and drawing with his wife Jayne. He is most known for his pencil drawings of birds, animals and families homes. These beautiful drawings are proudly displayed by many of his family and friends in their homes and businesses.
Beloved husband for 24 years of Jayne (Anderson) Strunk. Father of James and Sandra Strunk of Richmond VA. Brother of James Strunk of Ipswich and Carolyn Tucker of TN. Also survived by his extended family Karen and Joseph MulCahy of Plainville, Susan and Steven Younis of Franklin, Christopher Baillargeon of Bristol CT, seven grandchildren and many close friends. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Saturday, November 6 from 2:00 to 4:30 Pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 4:30. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers donations in Tom’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis TN 38105-1005 or to the Kidney transplant Center at BIDMC, 330 Brookline Ave Boston MA 02215.
