Wilbur Jackson, Sr. Obituary

Wilbur K. Jackson Sr. “Bill” of Newton passed peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021 at age 86. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Barbara M. Jackson with whom he shared almost 60 years of marriage.  Devoted father/ grandfather to Deborah Jackson and her daughter Samaria “Mari”, Sherry Jackson and her son Joshua “Josh” of Newton, and Wilbur Kent Jackson Jr., his wife Deanna and their four daughters, Kayla, Samantha, Victoria and Jaeda of Saugus. Bill was the loving brother of two surviving siblings, sisters, Marilyn Tyler of Rockland and Phyllis Jackson of Virginia as well as the late Louise Braxton of Medford, William Jackson Jr. of Weymouth and Robert Jackson of Weymouth. Bill is also lovingly survived by sisters-in-law Sandra Jackson, Roberta Battle and Geraldine Layne as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wilbur was a strong believer of education and the opportunities that it can offer. He graduated from English High School, Boston. He worked days and studied at night, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Bentley University in 1970 and his Master’s in Public Administration from Northeastern University in 1980. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

In addition, Bill was a proud member of the United States Armed Forces where he served in the Army after graduating from high school. He was discharged after three years of service leaving with an honorable discharge after completing his term.

He loved spending time outdoors gardening and enjoyed puttering around his yard. He was also an avid fisherman and was a member of The Sea and Surf Anglers Club of Boston for many years, serving for a time as club president. He loved spending summers on Martha’s Vineyard and had many special memories of spending time there with family and friends.  He and his wife traveled often and spent many hours with family and friends exploring the world. He loved his wife Barbara, his children and his grandchildren beyond measure. However, although he loved his children and grandchildren, he never recovered from the loss of Barbara, the love of his life, and he has now been reunited with her.

No wake or funeral will be held at this time.  A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wilbur’s memory to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation https://www.bcrf.org or to a charity of your choice.  Share the love and compassion needed so badly in the world while honoring Bill. He will be sorely missed, but knowing that he is once again with his beloved makes the pain a little bit easier to bear. Be happy Dad! T
