William Blount Obituary

William G. Blount, a long time resident of Wellesley died on Thursday, March 3rd at Kindred Hospital at Metro West Medical Center in Natick. He was 88 years old. Mr. Blount was a US Army World War II veteran. He graduated from Clark University with a B.A. and went on to receive his M.A. from Clark in 1948. Mr. Blount received his C.A.G.S. from Harvard in 1954. He was an educator in the Newton Public Schools in the 50’s and 60’s. He was Editor in Chief of the School Language Arts Department for Houghton Mifflin in Boston from 1969-1975. From 1975 until his retirement in 1988, Mr. Blount was the Director of Personnel for the Belmont Public Schools.
Mr. Blount was active in the Wellesley community, serving as a Town Meeting member in the late 60’s and early 70’s He also served on a variety of committees including the Wellesley Scholarship Fund and the Wellesley Woodlands Association. Mr. Blount was an active and dedicated member of the Wellesley Congregational Church. He was also a former President of the West Suburban Elder Services.
The beloved husband of Anastasia (Coparan) Blount, he was the loving father of Marcia and her husband John King of Hebron, ME and Debby and her husband Richard Smith of Norwell. Grandfather of Joshua, Abigail and Jessica King and Drew and Nathaniel Smith. A Memorial Service will be held at the Wellesley Congregational Church (The Village Church), 2 Central Street Wellesley on Saturday April 2 at 2PM . Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations in William’s name may be made to the Vernon Cancer Center at Newton Wellesley Hospital, 2014 Washington St. Newton MA 02462.
