William R. "Billy" Mazzone, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 7th surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Kimberley Mazzone, his daughter Jennifer Schafer and granddaughters Alexandra and Shayla Schafer of Rockport and son William R. Mazzone Jr. and wife Carolyn of Needham.
Billy was born in Newton, Mass to Ann Ferrari and Sylvester Mazzone and was predeceased by his sister Angela Wolf of Denver, Colorado.
A graduate of Newton High School, class of 1955 and then chose to serve in the US Navy until March 1962 and then embarked on a career with the Needham Fire Department for 37 years.
Billy was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Needham and remained an active member for 35 years.
Other life achievements include attaining a Real Estate and General Contractor License as well as taking part in building projects in the Needham area. In continuing with his relentless work ethic, during his retirement, he chose to work at Herb Connolly Chevrolet in Framingham. He also spent time with his special dog Tootsie.
Most importantly Billy valued and cherished his family and friends, which there were so many. It was unusual for Billy to enter a room and not know someone and was fondly referred to as "the Mayor of Needham". He touched a lot of people's lives, young and old and will be remembered for his charismatic, jovial, teasing nature.
Visitation will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, Monday, September 16th from 10am to 12noon, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley.
