William J. McCool, 87 of Needham, MA passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Boston on December 11, 1924 he was the son of Margaret R. and Charles E. McCool. Bill attended Boston College High School. At eighteen he enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII. He graduated from Boston College in 1949 and spent his career working for N.E. Telephone and its successors before retiring in 1992. He served on many development committees in support of Boston College and held season football tickets for over 50 years. He was a proud member of the Father Daniel J. Kennedy-Needham Knights of Columbus. He was an avid traveler and storyteller. He is survived by his former wife, Mary (Wessling) Scholbe of Naples, Fl and four children, Mary and William Kinchla of Framingham, MA, Charles and Aniela McCool of New Canaan, CT, William and Nancy McCool of Hopkinton, MA and Andrew and Diane McCool of Freehold, NJ; and 8 grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, Daniel, Charles, Sarah, Kelly, Christina and Grace. He is also survived by his beloved friend and companion for over 30 years, Eileen F. Gillis of Wayland (formerly of Milton) and her children Kathy and Dr. James Sayre of Farmington, CT, Joseph L. Gillis of Naples, FL, Julie and John Dutcher of Beverly, MA, Michael and Julie Gillis of Westwood, MA, Brian and Lisa Gillis of Merrimack, NH, and her 12 grandchildren, Thomas, Julie Anna and James Sayre, Kathleen Dutcher Curry, Stephen Dutcher and Brian, Kaitlin, Liam, Carly, Michaela, Erin and Daniel Gillis.
Visting hours will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, MA on Saturday from 9:30-11:15 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave, Needham, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, MA.
