William C. Tyler, of Needham, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020. He was 71 years old. Bill was the son of the late Francis C. and Janice (Lunn) Tyler. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Hartt College of Music at the University of Hartford in Hartford CT, where he studied piano with Daniel Pollack. Bill also served in the National Guard in Connecticut.
Bill was an accomplished musician. He played with the rock band: The Flashbacks. He served as Musical Director of Lyman Memorial High School in Lebanon CT, and as Music Director of the Connecticut Music Theatre and College Light Opera Company in Falmouth MA. Bill was a choral singer with many groups including the Newburyport Choral Society, Newton Choral Society, and Cantemus.
Bill’s other career was as a software engineer. He worked for Logica and Information Technology Systems, Inc/ Casino City.
He was the beloved husband of Claire Levesque, and the loving father of Julia Tyler, Elisabeth Tyler and Jonathan Tyler. Bill was the brother of Marion Sokolov, Phyllis Tyler McCafferty and Doris Tyler Sarhanis. He was loved by his in-laws. Bill is also survived by his cousin Susan Donnelly as well as many nieces and nephews. All who knew him deeply appreciated his unique sense of humor, including his bad puns.
In celebration of Bill’s life, visitation will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Thursday, February 13th from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452 or to College Light Opera Company, PO Box 906, Falmouth MA 02541 or to a charity of your choice.
